Teen Robs And Kills Teacher

A Tulsa teenager was arrested late Sunday in the reported kidnapping and sexual assault of an elderly woman and the subsequent fatal shooting of a man in front of his children.

The youth was identified as 16-year-old Deonte Green.

Police say Green broken into a couple’s south Tulsa residence before noon Sunday and force them to drive him to an ATM and withdraw money for him. He then forced the couple to return with him to their residence, police said.

Green sexually assaulted the woman and robbed the couple of cash and a handgun, said Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker.

Green reportedly left the residence on foot. Police say that about a half hour later, around 12:40 p.m., he approached a woman and her two daughters with a gun as they left their house in the 9000 block of East 67th Street, north of the Woodland Hills Mall.

Green reportedly forced them back inside the home, which was occupied by the woman’s husband.

“The husband fought with Green, and Green shot the husband,” Walker stated in a news release. “The husband continued to struggle with Green before collapsing inside the house.”

Walker said Green fled on foot.

The wounded man, identified as Broken Arrow Public Schools geography teacher Shane Anderson, died at the residence.

Nearly 12 hours after the fatal shooting, police said, Green pulled a gun on a couple in the 8300 block of East 71st Street and robbed them before fleeing.

Patrol officers, who had saturated the area looking for Green, spotted him fleeing that area and arrested him. Walker said enough evidence was located to connect Green to the other crimes.

School district Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop said she is devastated by Anderson’s death.

“Our hearts are breaking for his family, and we will support them every way possible during this unimaginable time,” Dunlop said.

Green was part of a group of youths who “had been very active” in automobile thefts and burglaries in the shopping mall area, Walker said.

About a week ago, authorities booked Green into the Tulsa Jail on a burglary complaint, Tulsa Police Sgt. Shane Tuell said. A Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said the District Attorney’s Office declined to filed charges in that case.

Police detectives said Green was a person of interest in multiple burglaries.

“For being as young as he is and already being known by the police like that, it’s extremely concerning and very serious,” Tuell said.

“His crimes continued to escalate. … Calling it a tragedy doesn’t do it justice,” Tuell said.

Green is in the Tulsa Jail on murder, robbery and sexual assault complaints, Walker said.
