Wendell Moore, a 13-year-old boy who already stands at 6’4,” is the new basketball wonder. He has the height, the skills, and the drive to make it big in the game.

Moore is a Charlotte, North Carolina resident. We’re only in 2015, yet he is already being called the best basketball player nationally in the class of 2019.

Although he’s still in the eighth grade, he has already received courting letters from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and Duke University, two top-rated basketball schools.

The player knows he’s talented, but that has only inspired him to work harder to sharpen his skills the best way he can. He fully understands that talent alone without self-discipline won’t get him far.

“This is a God-given talent. I have to use it to the best of my ability or it can be easily taken away if I don’t work as hard as I can every time I step on the floor,” he said.

Moore plays in a forward position and towers over his teammates. His team’s assistant coach, Dominic Bishop, said that the player is destined for bigger things since he has the right height and attitude.

“He came in and he was ready to work. I’d never seen someone ready to work like that,” said Bishop.

He said that Moore’s abilities are only likely to get better as long as he keeps focused and continues to practice.

“Everything you see right now is not what it’s going to be like in two, three years,” said the coach, giving his star player some advice. “Just stay humble and as long as you stay humble you’ll be OK.”

The level of skills and passion that Moore has demonstrated has been compared to last year’s NBA top draft pick Andrew Wiggins from Canada.

Wiggins was drafted into the Minnesota Timberwolves and is currently 19-years-old.

While the player already has several options open early in his career, one thing is certain: he’s got a great future in the game.

“Basketball is a place I can go to when there’s things on my mind,” said Wendell. “Or if I’m just trying to be me, I can go to the gym and that’s where I am.”
