Mary J. Blige is just fine being without her husband.
The Bronx-bred R&B singer, 46, revealed that "overwhelming disrespect" eventually led her to file for divorce from her husband this past July.
"Just disrespect, you're too familiar," Blige explained of reaching the breaking point of her 12-year marriage to husband and manager Martin "Kendu" Isaacs. "I can sense that I'm not what you want anymore because now you start throwing questions around like, 'OK, why don't you cook?' ... 'Why don't you wear your hair like this?' I never wore my hair like this before, what's up with you?"
Blige cited irreconcilable differences when she pulled the plug on the marriage and requested that Isaacs not be allowed any type of spousal support. The ensuing months, however, have been plagued by drama — not only was Isaacs holding a Grammy and two of Blige's luxury cars hostage, but in October he demanded nearly $130,000 in spousal support, as well as money for a private chef, a personal trainer, and clothing.
"When you realize you're by yourself in the relationship and you're suffering through it, now it's time to do some investigating," Blige said. "I was getting things here and there, but I didn't have full proof. But when I got the full proof, I didn't have to investigate it, it just showed up."
Though Blige doesn't divulge what exactly she was investigating, the singer alleged in December (in the same documents as the Grammy drama) that Isaacs had conned her out of $420,000 in business expenses while serving as her manager.
Last year, the "Be Without You" singer released "Thick of It," a breakup anthem inspired by her messy divorce. The record included lyrics like, "I ain't no quitter babe, and I be damned if all these years I let you diss me, babe."
