What Does Mariah Carey Think Of Her Peers?

What Does Mariah Carey Think Of Her Peers
Date Posted: Tuesday, December 20th, 2016

Mariah Carey tends to be cagey in interviews and on her own reality show, but on Sunday night’s Watch What Happens Live!, she was apparently feeling extra festive and gave us an early Christmas present by revealing her opinions on several of her contemporaries. Spoiler: They were not particularly kind unless the singer in question humbled herself to Carey by approaching her (generally by attending one of her shows)!

This all went down during a game of Does She Know Her, named after Carey’s legendary J.Lo shade (“I don’t know her”).

On Lady Gaga, Mariah said: “She came to my show, she was very sweet...and we had a nice conversation.”

Ariana Grande: When asked, “Do you know her?” Mariah gave a curt, “No.” When Andy Cohen asked if she felt that Ariana’s early work was an homage to her, Mariah’s chest started heaving the heave of a raising blood pressure and answered, “I don’t know when early in the career was...I don’t know...honestly I’m really not familiar, I listen to hip-hop more than I listen to pop music.”

Taylor Swift: “Very nice girl. Met her once, she was really sweet. She came up to me...yeah.” (No word on her great gowns, beautiful gowns, though.)

Madonna: “Uh, never had a conversation with her.”

Katy Perry: “Nice girl, she came to my show as well.”

Britney Spears: “I love Britney Spears.”

Miley Cyrus: “I think we met in a bathroom...I don’t know.” When Andy Cohen pointed out that they performed at some Divas concert once, Mariah responded, “I performed on that show a lot of times, with Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross. How am I supposed to remember everybody else?”

Mariah reserved her most sword-like words for Demi Lovato, who previously called Mariah “nasty” for her treatment of Jennifer Lopez and for “constantly ‘dissing’ people.” How in the world did Demi get that impression?!

“I don’t know her either, and so I wouldn’t say anything to her,” said Mariah. “She should come up, introduce herself to me, say here’s my opinion, ‘What do you think about it?’ That’s how you handle shit, OK?”

Yes, and I’m sure that would go so well for Demi.

Finally, Mariah had effusive praise for Beyoncé, of course.

She’s shady, not stupid.
