Jimmy Butler cut off cable and Internet during hardcore offseason training

Jimmy Butler cut off cable and Internet during hardcore offseason training
Date Posted: Thursday, May 28th, 2015
While we were in a tryptophan coma last week, SI.com's Ben Golliver ran a story about Bulls guard-forward Jimmy Butler's rise to stardom, which included some insight about Butler's intense commitment to turning himself into a superior basketball specimen.

Butler did the unthinkable -- to sports bloggers like myself, TV heads and creatures of the web, and maybe even other professional athletes who binge on Netflix during summer months. The 25-year-old told Golliver of the offseason:

“I wanted to be so good at the game that we didn’t have cable, we didn’t have the Internet. Whenever we got bored, all we would do is go to the gym. We’d eat, sleep and go to the gym. We’d go three times a day because we didn’t have anything else to do. We were sitting on the couch, looking at each other, saying, ‘What the###are we going to do all day?’”

A defensive expert, Butler is now averaging 21.6 points per game so far this season, up over eight points from last year (plus 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals). It seems his 13-hour-a-day regimen of yoga, running, skill work, weight training, running and Pilates worked. Give the full story a read.
