A Dallas man fatally shot a woman who got into an argument with his wife Monday night, police say.
Jimmie Jock Tarrer, 55, and his wife were at a property they own in the 3300 block of East Illinois Avenue, near Beauchamp Street in east Oak Cliff, when the victim walked by around 7:45 p.m., according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
The woman — whom authorities have not identified — accused Tarrer's wife of calling her the N-word, and the two got into a fight, the affidavit says. Tarrer's wife said the woman "spun her around somehow and she sustained a cut near her left eyebrow," possibly caused by her glasses, according to police.
At that point, Tarrer told his wife to step away from the woman, and he shot her once, police said.
Tarrer called 911 and reported that the woman had been armed with a knife, the affidavit says. He performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The woman was taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, where she was pronounced dead at 8:33
According to the affidavit, Tarrer's wife told police that her husband had shot the woman, but that she did not see the woman holding a knife. Police did not say whether they found a knife at the scene.
Tarrer was arrested on a murder charge and was being held at the Dallas County jail Monday, with bail set at $200,000. He did not have an attorney listed in jail records.
