First Lady's Dress Sells Out in 20 Minutes!

First Lady s Dress Sells Out in 20 Minutes
Date Posted: Wednesday, January 13th, 2016
Well that didn’t take long did it?

The motorcade left the White House at around 8:46 p.m. Tuesday for the six-minute ride up the block to the U.S. Capitol for the president’s final State of the Union address. About 10 minutes later it was places everyone! And that’s when the Twitterverse got its first glimpse of first lady Michelle Obama in what we know now was a “marigold” (not mustard, tangerine or coral) sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez dress.

Immediately social media sleuths searched for the sheath that launched a thousand (we’re guessing) Tweets.

By 9:41 p.m. Washington journo Kate Bennett, former fashion editor at Washingtonian magazine and current White House correspondent for the Independent Journal, found it on sale at Neiman Marcus.

The dress was marked down to $628 from $2,095, a discount of nearly 30 percent. But before fashion followers could check their bank accounts it sold out. In 20 minutes. Don’t blame it on the first lady bump just yet though. The dress, a part of Rodriguez’s Fall 2015 collection, has been in stores for some time and on sale since August. There could have been two frocks in stock or 20.

Still, the flurry of tweets about the dress proves that Michelle Obama’s fashion choices continue to spark equally intense debates (seriously, people argued over the color of the gown for an hour) and adoration.
