We Talk To Interracial Couples 50 Years After Loving v. Virginia

We Talk To Interracial Couples 50 Years After Loving v Virginia
Date Posted: Thursday, May 21st, 2020

In a landmark civil rights case settled 53 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Loving — Mildred and Richard Loving — in their suit against Virginia, forcing the state to recognize their interracial marriage.

The Loving v. Virginia ruling granted them, and anyone in the country, the right to marry a spouse of a different race, overturning laws against interracial marriages all across the U.S. It was a historic moment for civil rights in America, but also a very personal one.

VICE News asked couples to mark the anniversary by explaining what the Loving decision means to them and their families.

This segment originally aired June 12, 2017, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.
