Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore laid out a bold strategy for Democrats to continue the record-breaking turnout seen during the 2018 midterm elections.

Moore joined guest-host Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” to discuss the record turnout in the midterm elections.

In 2018, more voters showed up than in any midterm, topping 1974 — the first midterm election after 26th Amendment to the United States Constitution lowered the voting age to 18.

“Here’s the lesson I learned in Michigan, is that ballot proposals are the answer,” Moore explained. “George W. Bush and Republicans knew this in 2004 — they put 14 ballot measures in 14 states to outlaw gay marriage, to make it illegal.”

“That motivated people to the polls that might not have otherwise gone,” Velshi noted.

“We need for 2020 to have ballot proposals for legalizing marijuana, free college, equal rights for women, and outlaw gerrymandering,” Moore counseled.
