Nas Chicken & Waffles Food Chain Is Expanding

Nas Chicken Waffles Food Chain Is Expanding
Date Posted: Monday, November 20th, 2017

After establishing locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Los Angeles, Nas is bringing his wildly popular chicken and waffles food chain Sweet Chick to his hometown of Queens, New York.

Sweet Chick is a growing food empire frequented by Hollywood and hip-hop’s elite -- including Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean and Nicole Richie -- bringing locally-sourced rustic but modern American comfort food with a Southern twist to New York City and LA, along with signature cocktails, home-baked desserts, a cozy vibe and live music.

With 4 other locations nationwide, the 44-year-old’s business partner and Sweet Chick co-founder John Seymour finally found the right time to bring the chain to the rapper’s childhood stomping grounds. “Since partnering with Sweet Chick I’ve always wanted to take it back to my roots, and now it’s finally happening with the Long Island City store. That’s where I? grew up,” Nas tells Billboard exclusively. “We are also paying respect to my father, who’s a now retired jazz artist, with a private dining room inspired by jazz clubs where Chicken and Waffles were born.”

Deeply rooted in community and hip-hop culture, the food chain recently partnered with the Tupac Foundation to recreate Tupac’s Powamekka Café in Brooklyn, and collaborated with Odd Fellows Ice Cream on a Chix N’ Waffles Ice Cream Sundae. The new storefront is slated to open in February 2018.
