New Crime Series Will Attempt To Solve Biggie And Tupac's Murders

New Crime Series Will Attempt To Solve Biggie And Tupac s Murders
Date Posted: Thursday, November 10th, 2016

USA ordered a pilot for a new scripted true crime series about the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. called, Unsolved, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Unsolved will be written by Kyle Long (Suits). Anthony Hemingway, who helmed several episodes of The People v. O.J. Simpson, will direct the pilot.

The series will be based on the experiences of former LAPD detective Greg Kading and will track the two investigations into Tupac and Biggie's deaths, which happened months apart in in 1996 and 1997. Kading, who spent years investigating the murders, wrote the book Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations and will serve as a consultant on the pilot.

Neither Tupac nor Biggie's murders were ever solved, though in the self-published Murder Rap Kading claimed that he had evidence that Sean "Puffy" Combs and Suge Knight were to blame. Kading also alleged that the LAPD suppressed evidence, including taped confessions from hired hit men and removed him from the case just as he was about to solve it.

The nature and proximity of the Biggie and Tupac murders have also inspired numerous books, documentaries and movies (as well as countless conspiracy theories). Controversial filmmaker Nick Broomfield explored the deadly feud in his 2002 movie, Biggie and Tupac, while National Geographic dedicated a segment of its docu-series, The '90s: The Last Great Decade? to Tupac's death.

Both rappers have also been portrayed in biopics. The Tupac movie All Eyez on Me is expected to open in 2017. Meanwhile Biggie's life was chronicled in the 2009 film Notorious; star Jamal Woolard is slated reprise his role as the Brooklyn MC in All Eyez on Me.
